  1. Usually, a poem simply can’t work, emotionally, unless it’s rooted in concrete detail–in vivid imagery and in figurative language employing such imagery. Poets usually have to show and DEFINITELY not tell. Your poetry is rare in that it isn’t built according to that classic formula. It tends toward the general statement rather than toward the startling concrete image. However, the insights in it are so profound and, often, so concisely and precisely capture a precise, widely experienced emotional moment that this actually works in your work! There is that shock of recognition on the part of the reader–oh, YES, been there, done that! And so the work resonates, reverberates. This makes your poetry quite unique. It’s wonderful. Thank you!!! Sometimes it actually works to break the rules. Thank you again for these delights.
